Greetings ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the wonderful world of Cocktail Disco.
And what does Cocktail Disco refer to you may ask? Well, as you might know, for many years I have been a fervent collector of the Disco genre, which between 1975 and 1979 was immensely popular not only in clubs, but also in the real world; and as such it developed many a sub genre.
There was Disco Soul, Philly Disco, Disco Rap, Disco Funk, Disco Not Disco, Boogie etc. they all had their distinctive sound, and have been thoroughly exposed and compiled in recent times.
Over years of vintage vinyl hunting one particular style seemed to regularly take up more shelf space in my Disco-theque, it had a sound, that was borrowing from most others, but still retained it's character.
Rich orchestrations, a touch of Latin influence, the ubiquitous 4/4 Disco beat, and rather over the top vocals, it had an evident sense of drama involved.
Maybe some would find it cheesy, I would rather say cheeky and glamorous, something that would be quite fit for a Broadway musical show.
Since no one bothered to coin it a name I felt Cocktail Disco was simply appropriate enough.
Rest assured that again I've carefully handpicked for you the best and rarer gems, records released mostly on small labels, that were always hard to come by. I have also preferred to feature them in their unaltered, full-length glory.
Imagine yourself lounging on the sundeck of a flamboyant cruise boat sailing on the Caribbean seas. The sun is about to set, you're sipping a coconutty drink, it's been a very lazy day and your mind casually wanders.
The light breeze brings you echoes of music, isn't that an orchestra playing? Lush strings and mellow horns, Latin congas and a crooning diva. They must surely be rehearsing for tonight's captain's ball.
You're invited to his table tonight, shouldn't it be time to get ready? What would you be wearing?
So many things to think of, and then there's that cocktail which is a bit too sweet.
Why not have another one first and take it from there, there is time, all the time in the world.
Savour the moment; Cocktail Disco is for those relaxing times.
Disco is very relevant today because it's about releasing pent up energy and getting away from the pressures of holding down a 9-5 gig. That makes it more relevant now than it was years ago. Disco is about unity and hedonism regardless of age, gender, colour and sexuality.
In an age of bling, size zero models, SUV's and holiday homes abroad, Cocktail disco foretold our future.
The sound defies time. Lush, classical orchestration which is why it is still sampled and imitated - The foundations are more progressive than dance music today.
The notion of progress is an illusion. The world still works the same way it did 35 years ago and that's why the anthems created back then resonate so clearly now. Disco is about love and life. As long as couples have children, young hearts will run free, as long as there is infidelity people will restore their self belief in I will survive, as long as there is inequality there will be Bad Luck.

This album charts the birth of synthesised pop music in the 1980s and ultimately the roots of contemporary electronic dance music.
The importance and continued popularity of 80s pop is not to be underestimated, and the emergence of serious synthesised music producers in Kraftwerk, The Human League, Heaven 17, The B.E.F., OMD, Yazoo, Ultravox, Talk Talk, Japan, Devo, Sparks, Gary Numan, New Order and The Pet Shop Boys, all of whom massively pushed the boundaries in experimenting with (mainly) Roland synths in this era, ultimately showed the way for the house and techno producers of the 90s to the present day.
Within this more serious side there was also some brilliant, pure synth - pop from The Thompson Twins, Scritti Politti, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Thomas Dolby, Simple Minds, Propaganda, Erasure, China Crisis, Belouis Some, The Lotus Eaters, A Flock Of Seagulls, Howard Jones, Blancmange and The Associates.
As with the 2 preceding Anthems releases we have cherry picked a mix of the biggest commercial tracks in addition to the most important and influential ones making it a truly fantastic collector’s package and thoroughly entertaining listen.
The TV creative promises to be truly epic, proper hairs on the back of the neck stuff.
